CambridgeCabby
Katie and I have just returned from a glorious day afloat , God we have missed The Broads !!! We arrived this morning ,09:30, at the wet shed after a quick clean and the usual thorough checks we went for a short cruise to Gays Staithe , the rivers (well the upper Ant) were very quiet only encountered two other boats underway. Clear sky’s , accompanied with glorious sunshine meant we spent a wonderful few hours there , there was two other boats moored there. Sitting outside eating crab sandwiches in the Norfolk sunshine was heaven , can’t wait till we are permitted to stay overnight , hopefully won’t be in the too distant future

SwanR
Must be strange, even if quite nice in a way, to be out without the hire boats around.

The rivers were beautiful and yes it certainly felt strange to be so quiet on such a blissful sunny day. Those that know Katie and myself will also understand that we missed the social side of the Broads and the joy in hearing and seeing family’s enjoyment of this special place, a young child’s laughter and obvious glee of their boating holiday always warms our hearts . 1
ZimbiIV
I wish you lot would stop talking about boating. I am now wondering if I could do a 560 mile round trip in a day!! I would not have thought twice about it a few decades ago but it usually takes me a day to recover from the 280 mile one way trip. Enjoy every moment 'cos we will be down sometime. Those that can, get them boats moving. It will give hope to the local businesses that things will get better. paul
CambridgeCabby
We have owned Cerise Lady for in excess of three years now and a fortunate side effect of the no overnighting afloat ( for non live aboards) is that since we are currently having day trips afloat is that my 87 year old mother (in our household bubble) could join us for the day today , and she was a Broads virgin !! Well , she absolutely adored her day out and I can see that even when the no overnighting is relaxed we will still have to include day excursions in our Broadland cruises . We left home at 06:45 and picked my mother up at 07:00 , 08:30 saw us arriving in Wroxham , well ok Hoveton , to pop into Roy’s to get some milk , fresh bread and the much anticipated ( by my mother) crabs for our sandwiches to accompany the picnic we had packed for today. Horror!!! No crabs , a quick enquiry and we were happily told that the 09:30 delivery would have some, so a wander around to get a coffee to sit by the river with whilst we waited was in order , Costa was shut but the Millhouse cafe was serving take away coffees, so flat whites all round it was . 09:30 I popped into Roy’s and joy of joy grabbed a couple of plump juicy dressed crabs , off we went to the wet shed . checks done we left the wet shed at 10:30, a slow wonderful cruise began , I phoned George at Ludham to book in for fuel and pump out , arrived at Ludham Bridge at about midday, moored just before the bridge and walked over to make sure he was ready for us , told 5 mins and yup, 5 minutes later after being helped in by George (bloody wind as usual and too many boats at the yard making mooring very awkward) we had him put 100 litres of fuel in and currently he is 87p / litre must be the cheapest on the Broads , pump out was £15 . Arrived at , surprise surprise for those that know me , Ranworth staithe at about 14:00 and there was spaces , moored up and straight into the shop for ice-creams all round , once consumed Katie produced a wonderful doorstep crab sandwich for my mother and I and a picnic spread to die for. We left Ranworth at 16:00 , definitely well fed and watered destination Gays staithe for a cuppa tea , then a gentle cruise back to the wet shed via a trip into paddys Lane we arrived at 18:30 , by the time we had unloaded , cleaned and put Cerise Lady to bed it was 19:00 . dropped my mother off at 20:45 in Cambridge she was the happiest I have seen her for a long while , the Broads have worked their magic again !!!!! 12
