CambridgeCabby
“The other place “ has a posting concerning the moorings at Ranworth and the possible re-siting of the mooring for NWT boat , there is speculation that this mooring is to be moved from the left hand side of the dingy dyke (as you look towards the Broad) and be re-sited at the far left of the opposite dyke, thereby removing a much used and favoured mooring on an already busy and very popular mooring , also as these are 24hr moorings I believe it is not permitted to reserve a mooring space. can any member either confirm these rumours to be factual or perhaps Tom (BA) can comment please . ES2
If the boat was put in the dinghy moorings where the other boat was it would probably obstruct the dyke and cause problems for mud weighters using their dingies to get ashore. Also it would certainly cause problems for dayboats that use the dyke.
CambridgeCabby
The NWT boat was in the dingy dyke before , that space is now going to be used for I believe the Liana electric boat , hence the new electric box at the end of the dingy dyke , if it is going to be moved to the other dyke it will be akin to reserving a mooring on a BA 24hr mooring which to the best of my knowledge is not permitted , nor is returning to the mooring within a 24hr period , if the BA has changed their rules concerning overstaying and reserving moorings on their 24hr overnight moorings then that is something we need to be informed of as it could obviously lead to cruisers mooring on 24hr moorings for extended periods as the BA would have set a precedent themselves at Ranworth , but as I said in my OP this is currently speculation and I’m waiting for confirmation or denial from the BA

BrundallNavy
The NWT boat only used the end of the Dyke during the day and was moved elsewhere over night, we often used this mooring if the Staithe was full and as long as you moved by 09-30 they were fine with this. I suspect the same will be the case with the new spot but why they would want that corner is beyond me as a 44ft boat moored in the corner would make getting in and out very difficult. The sad thing is with Liana being moored on the far side of the dinghy dyke we will have lost our go to spot as it would completely block the Dyke. CambridgeCabby
Irrespective of wanting that corner or not , the fact is they are intending to occupy a 24 hr mooring space which is contrary to their current regulations, the same regulations which their shiny new signs on the staithe so plainly state . Also if they are moored there then they will also be blocking the corner space if it is vacant . this is of course if the information is correct as to their intent
marshman
Liana is not really big enough to block the corner - you will still get a small boat in the corner. That whole stretch will easily fit a a full size wherry!!! Where was Liana moored at Wroxham - was that on a BA mooring?
CambridgeCabby
It’s the NWT boat that I am led to believe is going to occupy the 24hr mooring space not the Liana

It is my understanding that the Liana will be moored at the top of the dinghy dyke opposite to where the NWT boat used to be moored. If the Liana was to be moored towards the end of the dyke it would inevitably be hemmed in by day boats and assorted dinghy's and tenders. Liana would not block the corner but I would question why it is needed at Malthouse at all. After all the majority of visitors come by boat. In my opinion it wold be best suited at its original mooring at Hoveton and taking people from Hoveton up to Coltishall. A most delightful trip. As for the NWT boat if moored at the end of the other dyke it will effectively take up two moorings. The side on mooring and also blocking the corner mooring at the end of the dyke or preventing access to that mooring. As for the NWT why not moor it at the NWT visitors centre on Ranworth broad. A pleasant enough walk along the board walk for a visit to centre and a chunter round the broad and a gentle poke about Malthouse.
vanessan
1 hour ago, marshman said: Where was Liana moored at Wroxham - was that on a BA mooring? Liana was moored between the two bridges where I believe the water bikes are now going to operate from. She used to be taken to the opposite side of the river, by the parkside, to load with passengers.

NorfolkNog
That was quick!! Thanks folks They are probably not around in winter I guess. Neither are particularly small. If they have reserved moorings I can see fun and games particularly in summer. If they have reserved signs on the moorings I can see them being ignored. I wonder if this has been thought through. Mind you I wonder if there will be a ranger there in summer? This is going to be interesting.
CambridgeCabby
The old NWT office is going to be manned by a ranger from my understanding . Also according to BA regulations they cannot place a reserved mooring sign on ba 24hr moorings 1
marshman
You couldn't reserve a mooring for a wherry for an Open Day to raise money for a charity - I suppose they should have just taken a large can of white paint with them and painted a white stripe along the capping!!!!!

SwanR
Interesting to read that the Liana may be relocating to Ranworth. I wonder why. It looked like it did reasonable business from Hoveton.
NorfolkNog
Out of curiosity what's the car parking situation at Ranworth? I know there is a parking area at the staithe but what about the one opposite the Maltsters? Is that for the pub only I wonder?
Jbx5
Pub car for patrons only. Staithe area very limited spaces There is a Parking area a bit further round the road at the back of the shop / cafe which is open day time hours only and locked at night. marshman
That belongs to, or was at lest used by the NWT - whether it comes with the information centre I do not know.
ChrisB
I have sailed on wherries a couple of times from ranworth and we parked behind the church. ( on grass ). I remember Olive laying off to a mud weight and came bow into the dinghy dyke to pick us up from the corner.
