Worth a mention (Vulcan's last shows)

Recommended Posts

Here's my favourite:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tueZ3wVYf_I

If you start at 1min 58secs you'll see about how I last flew her back in the 90's when I took ATC cadets up for familiarisation rides.

The only problem with Chippy aeros was that unless you were almost empty of fuel and on a very cold day, then you lost height as the sequence progressed!

Up a ladder fitting a security light just after 3pm today and turned to see what the noise was and there it was in a right hand bank, pretty low making its turn to fly over City (Barton) airport, Manchester (about two miles away).

Third time I've seen it from my garden and fortunately managed to film it the first two times

Seen it many times over the years, simply stunning aircraft. And that sound....Last time was last Year (Armed Forces Day in June) over Scarborough Bay.

I've been onboard the one at Coventry Aircraft Museum a couple of times.

such a shame that we won't see it in flight anymore.

Good pics Grendel, I planned to catch it yesterday in Wetherby but the app crashed so couldn't get the take off time to shot 16 miles up road (was in work) but a email was sent in my one of the bosses to rub it in.

Couple more flights so may get lucky.

the sound wasnt that good, to be honest as it was just cruising by, no big roar of afterburners or anything, we did hear it about 15 seconds before it arrived, it flew quite a way off the shore, luckily I was shooting with a 500mm lens, a lot of others where we were just got a picture of a speck in the sky. at best we had 30 seconds to get pictures.

Taken from email I got tonight.

Looks like I miss it with no times given I'm about 40 mins away from airport and would need to know an area in it's loop.

Final Flight Confirmed

Following the positive negotiations with the airport that we announced on Friday, a final flight has been confirmed but with substantial restrictions. To absolutely guarantee that there is no disruption to their operations from the crowds that are expected, their primary requirement is that the flight takes place at very short notice.

We have agreed to this with regret because we believe it is important to have a symbolic end to flying, which is professionally recorded and made available to you as video and stills, but understanding the disappointment that it will rightly bring to all those who have generously supported XH558 and would like to see the final touch-down.

As discussed previously, any delays to commercial flights due to congestion around the airport will be extremely expensive for them and they will have no choice but to pass those costs on to the Trust, which would have a dramatic impact on the future of XH558. It is for this reason that our original plans for an event around the final flight had to be cancelled with apologies to all those who deserve to be there. Thank you again for understanding this difficult position.

We have used almost all the available flying hours taking her to you, across the UK this year, flying more than 50% longer than in any previous year, with many thanks to Marshall Aerospace, the Civil Aviation Authority, and K M Dastur, our aviation insurance brokers, for agreeing this extension.

After such a fabulous year, we have only a handful of minutes left, so the final flight will be around 15 minutes with no display, simply saying Farewell to the Skies.

We are still negotiating exactly how much notice can be provided, requesting a reasonable relaxation of the original very strict requirement. Do please keep a close eye on our social media – Facebook Vulcan XH558 and Twitter @XH558 (repeated on our website) – for updates and for details of how to see the flight live, online.

Some  great footage there. For those in and around Norfolk they have a Vulcan at the Aviation  Museum at the back of Norwich airport ,to walk under and get close is brilliant amongst many other planes and a great museum there is a Nimrod which you can have a guided tour in side which has all the complete interior .A good place to visit in the area and only a few pounds .

One of the best places to see these air shows is The Southport Air Show, held every August. Cars can park on the beach, so lots and lots of room for everyone to park, and a nice place to spend a holiday. I would say that wouldn't I, because I used to live in Southport. Watched this years show, with the last visit of the Vulcan.
