  1. Gracie you said it yourself , probably without realising it! MY idea of Heaven is THE BROADS !!
  2. Thanks Robin for an entertaining hour. I think you are a fine ambassador for the Broads but I must say that the thought of cruising along the river and seeing you with your stern sticking out of the reeds is very worrying lol !!!
  3. I am quite happy to drink coffee whilst we are mobile. Once we are safely moored and not likely to move again I may be tempted to partake of a glass of Guinness to relax even more at the end of the day
  4. Hi Gracie. I would love to have seen that woman's face if they found the boat as filthy when they went on board as they way left it. I taught my own kids and my step-kids to always leave a boat or any holiday accommodation how they would like to find it.
  5. That may be so Mowjo , but could you think of a nicer place to find it? Oh yes here are those things they call "landfill sites" . Nearly forgot about them just like the council.
  6. If it is anything like a council I used to work for they are likely to arrange " a meeting" to discuss the problem. The result of that meeting would be to arrange a date for a meeting to discuss the problem in depth. This would probably result in a third meeting having to be arranged because someone could not attend the second meeting. The third meeting may result in a committee being set up to investigate the problem and report back to a meeting yet to be arranged. In order to carry their directive the committee would probably have several meetings and sight meetings (gets them out of the office for a few hours) A meeting would then be arranged to discuss the committee's findings. Unfortunately this meeting would be late in the financial year so a decision would have to be deferred until the new financial year and everything would be started again. Hey Ho! Someone in the Treasurer's Dept then reports that the meetings they have held so far has cost in excess of £15000 !!!!!
  7. I agree he must have an awful lot of patience and time. Wonder if his next project will be on his beard, lol.
  8. Hi Kadensa, There are quite a few quiet places on the northern side where you get some practice. River Ant :- Ludham bridge, How Hill, Irstead, Gay;s staithe, and Barton Turf all come to mind. River Bure :- on the main river by both Salhouse and Wroxham Broads, in Salhouse broad itself, by St. Benets, public moorings next to the mouth of the Thurne. River Thurne :- Womack staithe, round te back of Womack Island, public moorings just before that bridge. Hope this gives you plenty to choose from depending on river traffic.
  9. My memory takes me back to 1966 when we were lucky enough to have hired the "latest in broads boats". We had a Carribbean from F.B.Wilds at Horning. We had done the south side and were heading back over Breydon when the weather suddenly decided to blow a gale straight into our faces. It became so rough that we moved everything off the worktops and cooker and stowed it on the floor. As we hit a wave the water went up in the air like a wall and then the wind blew it straight back at the windscreen. On the early models you could open the screens vertically and they dropped inside the body moulding (very nice on hot days). As the water hit the screen it ran down and into the recess where the window dropped. The first we realised this was when my brother pointed out that the floor in the saloon was "rather wet". The water was coming out of the bottom of the panel which housed the steering wheel and other controls. Problem was soon sorted but we didn't have a dry towel for quite a while!! HAPPY DAYS!!
  10. Hi Lori, When there was a webcam at Southgates yard at Horning it was usually focused on the work being carried out on Ardea. After the work was completed and Ardea left the yard the webcam was left in the same position as they had a resident otter to watch.
  11. Clive, I haven't seen any info or update on how your new builds are progressing for ages. Have you got anything to tell us with photos?
  12. Really enjoyed your short film. Wishing I was there seeing it for real instead of on my computer.
  13. I agree with Andy --- you will have to do a lot of searching to find anywhere better than Acle. Gets very busy though so may be a good idea to ring and book before you arrive. Andy, have you got your ticket for the final yet? Just heard that the kick off time is the same as F.C. v Rovers........There's good planning ! Jeff. (now living on the south side)
  14. My advice would be to consider very carefully whether you really want/need a dinghy. Yes they can be very useful or good fun BUT they can also be a pain in the a***. Give plenty of thought as to where you are likely to moor overnight as a dinghy bumping against your boat can be very disturbing when trying to get some sleep. Even worse is if it someone else's dinghy knocking against your boat!!!!
  15. Grace , I totally agree with you. I always tell people "If you can't relax on the Broads, you can't relax anywhere !!

    BBQ

Hi Alan. I was watching a programme about caravanning the other day ( possibly on Quest). The cobb bbq was shown and it sounds really good....cool to the touch on the outside when in use. The problem is that there were loads of the series all shown on the same day but you may be able to find it on demand or catchup.
  17. Hi lori, is there any clue to an approximate date on the postcard?
  18. Oh dear that is a shame as I have never had anything to do with Facebook. All I ever hear about Facebook is someone slagging off someone else! Hopefully Clive will put an update on here soon so that I don't HAVE to g on Faceache
  19. I'm not sure if I have missed something or if I have looked in the wrong place but I can't remember seeing any reports from Clive regarding how the new build programme is going. The last I remember seeing was way back in November........I feel it is about time I had another fix with a few photos if possible.
  20. My thoughts are that the very gentle slope towards the stern was originally a safety aspect. if you were unfortunate enough to get caught in a downpour water ran off the stern and did not collect in puddles along the length of the boat. This kept the decks clear and in the days of all wooden boats did not cause any unrequired swelling and possible warping in the superstructure. I remember back in the 60's after overnighting next to the bridge at Reedham on a Caribbean, I noticed puddles on the deck when we opened the curtains in the morning. Realising that this should not be we investigated and found that during the night with the fall then rise of the tide the rubber rub-rail had caught under the buttress of the bridge. When we finally managed to release it (with help from several other boaters and a long plank of wood) it seemed that several gallons of water were added to the river behind the boat.
  21. If I were you I would check out the 360 views on Richardsons website. Personally I have looked on both Symphony and Calypso...both very nice boats but Symphony does have a bit more room plus the forward well is great if you are likely to be fishing.
  22. Sorry I couldn't make it. Just as I was about to wind up my comp we got visitors who didn't know what time to leave!
  23. Clive, looking at the "Kingfisher" at the show, is this the one that lives in the South Walsham Broad area? Think we saw it there when we were down that way last October.
  24. Here's hoping that everyone has a happy and safe New Year. Good luck and good health to all. Jeff
  25. I'd rather see a reference to a true Broads organisation than Le Boat. I commend HW for the explanation that these boats were built by another boatyard.
