  1. We have recently purchased a Seago 230 with Suzuki 2.5hp outboard, and find them excellent. The seago is at the lower price range but still a quality product and will take three adults but will be snug , outboard lightweight for a petrol powered one and very economical . We were fortunate to find ours in excellent condition from another NBN member . If I were purchasing new I would have gone for one with an air floor as opposed to slide in floor slats ( we have a solid floor also supplied with the dingy to counter not having airdeck) .
  2. As a youngster I was fortunate to have been amongst the passengers on the first channel crossing out of Portsmouth on the Hoverspeed , much of the journey I was in a crew seat on the bridge . Somewhere I have the admittedly poor quality photos I took , along with the certificate and pack given to all passengers on the day. My mothers side of the family resided (and still does) in the Southampton/Portsmouth area and my late uncle was a submariner and ended up working for hover speed in the development department .
  3. Are they hydraulic ? If so you have to have reasonable revs on the engine (have it in neutral) for them to work properly
  4. Russell Marine , small jetty by the handbag
  5. Yes indeed , some do have separate shower stalls also but that tends to be the highlight end , dearer hires
  6. Condolences to family and friends of the casualty . Hopefully we can all respect this time of grief and avoid any unnecessary speculation/discussion
  7. WRC are indeed good, modern boats . I didn’t recommend them as the OP stated that he wished to explore the Bure ,Ant and Thurne network. If he was thinking of exploring the Southern Broads then Broom , WRC and Silverline would be my recommendations
  8. I think it’s fair to say that Herbert Woods are NOT the best maintained fleet on the Broads , if Mrs London is particular about boat appearing spotless I would steer towards NBD , the newer Richardson’s fleet and Ferry Marina . Summercraft although now a very much reduced fleet of 2 boats offering have always been exceptional too. That said , Herbert Woods have a new Broom Captain (Gleaming Light) they fitted out and that would probably be perfect for you both .
  9. I still fail to understand why when all of these new posts were installed the payment method was not set up to the use of debit cards instead of the need to purchase electricity cards and the inherent expense involved in this .
  10. Probably because a majority of us ,or maybe just me ,don’t know what it is , I had to google it
  11. Yes will be a fault as opposed to design fault and since the yard has been informed (if not in person but certainly by the review) I feel confident that it would have been addressed , WRC has a very good reputation , if you have concerns phone them before you go on holiday to confirm it has been addressed . Often people say the batteries don't charge but fail to mention they have left all the lights on , didn’t turn the inverter off (a big no no) etc etc . you will have a wonderful time , relax and enjoy
  12. When my father was first introduced to my exsister in law by my brother in the pub he asked her what she wanted to drink “I think I’d like a brandy and babysham “ was her response to which my father replied “well you had better think again”
  13. Not just pub interiors change over the years , Katie and I have too
  14. If , as seems , the general consensus is, that the otters have caused the vastly reduced levels of ducks, and other wild fowl and these otters we know were reintroduced by man to The Broads then ergo the change in the ecological balance was man made . Otters, having no natural predators , population has grown rapidly since they were reintroduced as is evident by the numbers seen today , and will continue to grow without yet again intervention by mankind. History has shown that any move to cull or even manage numbers of a wild mammal results in action being taken by various groups of individuals , and these are often seen to be the same protestors that seem (IMO) to make an occupation of supporting one cause or another on an almost weekly basis. As far as definite proof that my concerns are true is concerned , then I agree it is based on conjecture and would gladly listen to proof that I am incorrect
  15. Congratulations on your acquisition and a warm welcome to the NBN from Katie and I . Respect to you for taking on the task ahead and I’m sure there are members far more qualified than I who will be only too glad to offer insightful assistance with any queries you may have .
  16. So , once again the interference and mismanagement of man ( and woman) in reintroducing a top predator to an area results in the decimation of other wildlife . How long I wonder, before there is a need to cull the rapidly expanding otter population , which will no doubt be opposed by the seemingly professional protest at everything brigade that plagues our everyday lives .
  17. On the new “lakes” by the mouth of the Ant you can often see large flocks of water fowl , I think Mouldy may be correct in his assumption .
  18. Trouble is payment ,in full , has already been sent for full toll , if I also purchase a short term toll I won’t be able to claim it back off next years toll only this years so it will be over and above what I have paid for this year . dont object to paying my toll but I will be b*****ed if I’m paying them extra
  19. The tender wasn’t tolled last year as the previous owner no longer used it , so he informed the BA to that end last year and it was listed as being no longer being tolled or on the Broads. When speaking to the BA and giving previous reg number (as required to do so if craft previously registered on the system) I was informed that it had to be treated as a new registration but will be issued with the same reg number
