Hi Helen I agree totally with what Vanessan says. We moor in the yacht station at least once a year and last year we stayed two nights but not Fri,Sat or Sunday. Pity you can't stay in the week because the walk into Norwich over Bishop's Bridge then through the cathederal grounds is really pleasant. You could however moor at Commissioners Cut,walk up the track and catch the bus for the short ride into the city, not having to worry about the Thorpe bridges.Either way the cathederal is well worth a visit Boycee

Just checked with my friends in Reedham and they confirm that Peter owns the pub outright. He was in partnership with Graham for over 20 years and when Graham retired Peter bought him out. Looks like he is going to lease the pub to a suitable applicant and enjoy early retirement so there appears to be no fear of a dreaded Pubco involved Boycee

Have heard from different sources that the place is owned by Johnny Depp but may not be fact Boycee

Just to put the record straight I was with Dave Moss last night in The Commodore and he told me that although he had heard the rumors re taking on the Waveney, he never was and never would be interested in buying a business so close to one he already owns so the email sent by the tenants of the Waveney is totally incorrect. The pub is now closed and I guess that the owners are now on the lookout for new tennants. We did however have an excellent meal in The Commodore as per usual

Just to let you know in case you need a reliable and competitive taxi service we used All Abroad taxis of Potter Heigham to bring 4 of us back last Saturday 22nd from our annual dinner in Reedham to Sutton Staithe for the excellent price of £35. The owner Rupert even rang me two days before to confirm the details hadn't changed from my origonal booking. Another local firm had quoted £53 ! Contact info numbers are:- 01692 670058 or 07754327388,owner Rupert Atkinson Boycee

Hi Spider if you ring Robert ask Sutton Staithe boatyard 01692 581653 and ask him for the name of the guy who makes the ones they replace, its somewhere in Norwich. They custom made a stainless steel water tank for me and did an excellent job at a reasonable price which Robs guys then fitted. Boycee

We have got an Alpha 35 centre cockpit which I bought from a private owner in 1995. She was built in 1991 and is 25 years old now , but as good as ever. Wouldn't change Sandpiper for any other boat. Boycee

Hi people just to let you know that the Saturday of the meet is also the Sat of The Yare Navigation race which involves lots of rag & sticks racing from Coldham Hall to Breydon and across before returning on the same route. Start time will depend on the tides but could be as early as 7am so if you are using this route to reach Surlingham plan your journey accordingly. There will be lots of participants as I believe but could be wrong that this is the second biggest race behind the 3 Rivers Boycee

Happy birthday Yorkie Boycee -
Great blog Eric but just to let you know for future reference and in case any other forum members do not know, electricity at Surlingham Ferry is not free. Sonia actual charges £2 per night in the summer and £5 per night in the winter payable at the bar relying on boaters honesty Boycee

When I bought Sandpiper 21years ago the boat, which was then 3 years old, was fitted with Flotex carpet in both cabins and the lounge with quality thick lino in the galley. The boat is an Alpha 35 and 21years on we still have the same floor covering showing no sign of wear and tear. Flotex is easy to clean including all stains and very hard wearing- if and when it needs replacing I would not hesitate to use Flotex again. We use the boat extensively during the year but it has never been a hire boat as it was built for private use Boycee
