Malanka
Ok some bad news. Our transmission has died AGAIN!!! After Brooms had fixed the issue at the expense of my left t e s t I c l e ( note to swear committee - get a life, thatβs an anatomical descriptor)Β coming out of bridge broad it died again. Quick thinking and a son built like a brick loo got us to the opposite bank. Kindness from Doug got us from there to the leccyΒ points. Anyway Robert in Sutton is fixing it but we think we have had enough and a new Beta is our solution, more details when we get the quotes back. More bad news is the new window and a significant section of that cabin side see2019 a few posts back is now soft and has to come out.Β Β I also found a bottom hull plank that needs replacing which of course means there may be more. Phill will be sorting this when he has her out after the season.Β Β So fix transmission ~ Check Lift boat fix planking ~ Check Replace cabin side ~ Check RepaintΒ and refloat~ Check Fit new engine~ Check Flog old one on eBay ~ Check Β Go have a lie down~ Check StartΒ saving into restoration fund again~ CheckΒ Β And breatheΒ Β M&FΒ Β Β
Malanka
Hope we donβt need a new prop, donβt want to lift twice. Don't we know it too, a tiling job turned in to a a major bathroom rebuild due to rot and years of bodging by previous owner. We still have go get to the" wood butcher of Lowestoft" in June for this year's planned planking work. Just hope we can get the boat Loddon for Madam Reverend starting her job there. Malanka
If anyone remembers my first post on this topicπyouβll remember I used the phrase, the whole in the water into which we pour money that is Malanka. Well we have some very sad news to convey to the forum. Malanka is more sick than anyone had an inkling about. Consequently she will not be making a hole in any water anytime soon.Β Charlie at Sutton has identified several βbodgesβ on her starboard side which have resulted in a rotten chine which now needs replacement, all of it the full length. Some idiot, I know not whom, put pine in her hull under the water next to the chine, all rotten which have transferred this rot to mahogany planks.Β Β With tears in my eyes we seriously had to consider whether we wished to continue, we have decided we will and Charlie at Sutton will be keeping her in good order. The scale of the work is such that it will take several years to complete, this year is the hull, further work will continue in years after that.Β Β What this means is that Malanka is unlikely to be floating again in 2022. We wonβt be having a holiday aboard or making the Beccles event.Β Β We will be afloat thanks to The Martham boat company for the first full week in June. The last time we were about this craft was in 1995. Thank the Lord for Martham boats. I will keep everyone updated on Malankas progress as things get remediated.. Β Best wishes to allΒ Β M&FΒ Β Β
