Potter currently showing 6' 1/4" on project troll at around low tide, all this rain wont be helping, you have time for it to improve.

How is the old girl going?

I phoned the bridge pilot earlier. He suggested calling first thing tomorrow, so there's a glimmer of hope.

So far, she's running nice and sweetly. We haven't taken her above 2000 revs though as we are trying to treat her gently. Normally going along at about 1800, but that's around 5mph with the tide behind us.

Pleased you’re north. I’m back at the yard today and tomorrow getting washing done etc between guests. If you come as far as Stalham staithe let me know later and I’ll walk round. Or if mooring somewhere with road access tonight, again let me know and I can drive round.

Oh drat! I hadn't realised you'd be in Stalham. Just catching up on the thread again after mooring up in Richardson's. We had lunch on board and popped to Tesco's. Unfortunately I didn't catch up on the thread again until we left.

A big sorry!

I composed this yesterday, but had no signal to post it. I have somehow moored in places without signal the past three evenings.

A bit of catching up to do from yesterday (Wednesday). From Richardson's we went back down to Barton Broad and found the channel that leads to Wood End Staithe, where there is just about room for a Water Rail sized boat. We took Seren for walk.

When we got back we realised that there was a strong smell of methane, so probably not the best place to moor. This was probably due to the thick layer of blue green algae. Neil, a member of the Lightening syndicate, had texted earlier to say there was a space at Gay's staithe, so we went there instead and just about fitted in. I had no signal there though.

This morning (Thursday) we tried our luck at Potter H, there was a possibility of going through but not advised, so we didn't.

We moored instead at South Walsham, having squeezed into a small Water Rail sized gap.

Kate (kpnut) arrived mid afternoon and, after a cuppa, Kate and I set out for a walk with the dogs. We were so busy chatting we inadvertently took the longer circular route. It was a good walk though, and I certainly need the exercise. Thanks Kate!

This morning we had a fairly short cruise up the Ant. We thought of aiming for Neatishead, Sutton Staithe or Richardson's, as we would like some electric to recharge our phones and power banks, however, Irstead was unoccupied, so we have hunkered down here for the rest of the day.

The walk to The White Horse is tempting, but the showers are so heavy and frequent, we think it best to be lazy and stay on the boat.

Harry took his paddle board out of its bag to dry, but all it's doing is collecting puddles.

Kate has just gone past on Springer's Retreat and gave us a beep.

This morning we set out for Sutton Staithe to get some fuel...should have googled first, as the Yard was shut. We booked a slot at Boulter's instead for 12.30.

After our trip to Horning we went down to Acle to see if there was any chance of a space with leckkie...no, definitely not! We took the chance of going down Upton dyke instead. The Staithe was full, but we were welcomed with open arms at Eastwood Whelpton (they remembered us from the Beccles Wooden Broads Cruiser Show in August).

Currently in The White Horse. :default_biggrin:

And to think I was thinking of giving the staithe at Upton dyke a go as I was feeling brave about turning at the end and thought it’d be sheltered. We’re down on the wild mooring just before Stokesby. It’s still blowing a bit, not sure if I actually need any lines as we’re pinned to the bank!

Lovely sunny evening.

Only slightly jealous!  Sitting at Pyes Mill.  Just three boats here now including us and a casserole in the oven.  Going to try to cross Breydon in the morning.  Word is that the highest tides are passed and we should get through (according to the lads at the yacht station). Might get my carvery after all!

I apologise, if I hadn't been hogging a space at Acle early afternoon you could have moored there.

Then again if you had managed to grab my mooring spot just think of all the fun you would have missed out on down Upton Dyke and the White Horse pub :default_biggrin:

We went down Upton Dyke last year. We moored at the first available space. It was very windy at the time and a friendly man from Eastwood Whelpton suggested moving up the staithe. We initially ignored his advice. After a short while listening to the wind we decided to move up! Remember, if you are close to a hire base which specialises in sailing boats, you are never far from the wind!

I don’t have to be close to a hire base specialising in sailing boats to not be far from the wind!!  Have you not met the wife???  :default_hiding:

To be honest, if there hadn't been a space at Eastwood Whelpton I would probably been in great difficulty. The wind was blowing strongly across the dyke and I would have had no option other to reverse out. On the other hand it was blowing onto the reedy bank not the one with all the moored boats.

We have crossed Breydon (waved at Malcolm and Debbie as we passed each other near Marina Quays), now nearing St Olaves. On our way to moor at Oulton Broad, but not at the Yacht Station.

I was giving a different kind of wave to the clown in the hireboat that was overtaking the boat that was just about to overtake you!  Three craft fairly much abreast heading towards the yacht station didn’t leave much room for me heading upriver!!

That idiot didn't slow down until the end before the yacht Station. Guess where they were heading? Yep...all the way to the yacht Station.

We are now on our way back to MK, intending to be back on board tomorrow evening. I almost said back to Norfolk, but maybe I mean Suffolk.

Must have had an important appointment with a beer in Yarmouth!

Have a safe journey there and back.  Not sure how busy the roads will be tomorrow.  We were on holiday near Bethesda when Diana was killed and returned home on the day of her funeral.  I have to say that I’d never seen the roads as empty as they were that day.
