  1. The coast north of GY was very misty/low cloud this morning, could be the reason
  2. Not for the first time,we have returned home beaten by the rain etc! Had a good couple of days on the best side of that Bridge, but it was pretty dire this morning. Hope it gets better soon, hope to return Friday evening for the weekend.
  3. I suspect that this lady will be taken to one side by her supervisors and given an explanation why they pay a lot of money for public relations people to make statements to the press on their behalf. People who know how to word things that do not lose them support!
  4. Me? 11 plus (failed) Bombay Distance Learning
  5. I agree with almost every word. We keep our boat on the "good" side so I hope you all behave yourselves when up there 'er on board would not allow me to try navigating the bridge myself, so I have no plans at the moment to do so. A couple of weeks ago there were two adult swans with 8 signets near Martham Broad, the adults carrying the youngsters on their backs. Many years ago the pilots got us through in very difficult circumstances and have always been very helpful. I would think it a cheek to ask them when it was difficult but take it through myself when easy. This is no criticism of MM, just my way of seeing things. I would be quite happy to save £20 but not to lose use of my boat whilst a boatyard works out how to replace everything above deck level!
  6. "BA are you taking note?" It seems to me that BA have actually been giving lessons!?
  7. Exactly the same thing happened to a friends Honda car over Christmas, he lives in a quiet drive in Essex and didn't know until he started it up. Again a clean cut.
  8. Good to hear some good news. I am sure a number of people hear can understand your sense of relief.
  9. Richardsons newsletter encouraging people to vote for The Broads as Britains favourite National Park.
  10. Thanks for the info Alan. We lived in Kendal over 40 years ago and visited the towns around Windermere most Saturday nights. The whole place buzzed with visitors, boaters, climbers and tourists. It sounds as if some of those places may not have the same atmosphere now.
  11. As priorities seem to go in three's these MAY be the reason to aim for full NP status: 1) Personal ambition of leadership 2) Possible more access to funding 3) To be able to restrict use of navigation by hiding behind the Sandford Principle. MM I too do not know how boating is restricted in National Parks, but there are various restrictions on Windermere for example I believe. I am not sure who imposed them and which powers were used.
  12. By the time most people know or care, it may be too late!!
  13. If I were allowed to speak for her, then I would say that my wife also dislikes barbecues, but as I am not allowed to do so...........
  14. And the Navy Lark!
  15. Here's hoping you have a great time and the weather is kind to you
  16. The statement that you get less than a £1's worth of electricity seems in some cases to be misinterpreted. Yes, when inserted the card shows £1 credit, but the amount charged per unit is higher, therefore you are getting less for your pound than you should-the "balance" being the cost of the card. My understanding. I could be wrong, Frequently am. Never used the cards or the posts
  17. Just down the road to you, Grendel, Pegwell Bay?
  18. What is good between Wroxham and Horning? In days gone by our children were young we moored in Porter and Haylett. We had very limited time but were sometimes able to visit for a day, or if we were lucky overnight. Wroxham held very few charms for me, but the journey down river to towards Horning usually stopping off at Salhouse was pure joy. The Autumn and Spring colours are still imprinted on my mind-pure heaven, and Salhouse for the children will never be forgotten. We returned on our boat 2 years ago with one son and his family. He was reliving 30 years ago when the very same ice cream man arrived in his boat. I have yet to find any part of the Broads that doesn't hold some charm.
  19. I do not know the gentleman concerned, but as i read certain posts I did wonder if they would encourage him to change his mind should he see them.
  20. One word changed or inserted can give completely the wrong picture: Norwich A Fine "Town" Wroxham capital "city" of the Norfolk Broads (and Suffolk of course) Johnb A "handsome" beast.
  21. Just to add a bit of flesh to previous suggestions, Ranworth has a visitor centre (free) but not open Mondays I think, and a chance to climb up the church spire and see for miles, If you can get through Potter Heigham bridge (check with pilot nearer the time) there is a walk from Horsey to the beach with the chance of seeing the seals. Coming down the Ant from Stalham you will see How Hill a large area of grass where the children can run etc.If you plan to self cater meals you are more free, if you want to eat out at pubs etc.you may need to moor earlier in the day as it can get a bit busy. If you can be flexible you will be able to relax more. Take a few things for the children to play with on the boat and wellington boots in the very unlikely event that the weather doesn't stay dry, Don't rush because you will be back., Enjoy!
  22. Vaughan said: "The Broads is not a waterway which is set up for this. There are no aids to night navigation at all." When we started boating 30 years ago, we spent a lot of time close to Ludham Bridge. There was a guy who lived on his boat there who would often leap out of his boat at night and shout at hire boats passing after dark and/or speeding (the latter including private boats). His advice as to what they should do was quite explicit and detailed although not always anatomically possible I think. I am not sure if one would call him an "AID TO NIGHT NAVIGATION"!
  23. Didn't you know beforehand that Barton Broad can get bit choppy?
  24. Thank you Robin for the reply, sorry I didn't see it earlier-busy times!
  25. I was certainly joking-sorry if anyone took me seriously-no-one ever has before!
