Boat Safety Certificate

Had mine done by Alan May a couple of weeks ago, cost £150, was on a Hampton Safari.

Very impressed with Alan, all straightforward with none of the 'Norfolk' timescales.......

We have also used Alan May for our last two inspections on Ranworth Breeze.

Used Tim Waters for the 2nd time in January, very helpful and only £130

We've always used Tim  Waters as well but have been advised he's retiring and taking no more bookings other than what he already has in hand.

I usually get a guy from st.ives to come and do mine as he's done all the previous ones and has photos of all the hidden hose markings, he normally charges me £160 including the extra for travelling (180 mile round trip), I think I'm the only one he'll travel that far for.

He used to do mine when I was local to him which is the only reason he still does it.

We used Tim Waters last year as he has issued the previous certificates for our boat, very thorough and friendly. He lives at Potter Heigham so not far to come to our boat at Horning.

Hi Smoggy - would you be able to pass his details on to me ?

I'm looking to get the boat safety certificate redone straight after the survey of the boat I'm buying, to make sure there is nothing problematic. There is only a year left on the existing one, so I might as well do it as belt-and-braces to the survey, in case I need a bargaining tool on the purchase price

Whilst the surveyor I am using a a good marine engineer, he is not a BSS examiner.

Thanks for that Smoggy.

I spoke to Dan, and he basically said don't bother renewing the boat safety certificate this early, but run it until just before it's renewal date next year.

He said you can renew up to 2 months before expiry, and add that to the next renewal date. With the survey being done (albeit not by an surveyor who is Gas Safe), that should cover most things that would put me off completing the purchase.
