The first one was moored just up from the turning into Paddy’s Lane on the Ant and caught fire and sunk.
NorfolkNog
I reckon it was this one. It was moored with some other boats at the end of the Sutton moorings in February. Didn't that Miles punter have something to do with a report of a boat loose at its mooring in the same area? Rings a bell somewhere.
ChrisB
That has been about for a while, I saw it underway once towed by a bathtub that was powered by a very ancient outboard. Not surprised it sank, the state of it. Looks like the little bay between Stalham Dyke and Sutton Dyke/Broad. That used to be a favourite mud weight fore and aft of ours if we wanted an early start. ChrisB
Owner to salvage! I just got buzzed by a low flying pig. I wonder if it is tolled and insured? 1
marshman
He is the one credited with the picture! Strange how this sort of thing follows him around - cannot imagine why????? 2
eddybear
I suppose we should feel sorry for people that have lost their homes, how would we feel If our boat sunk, but we just use our boats for pleasure, not as a permanent home, But I suppose water Gypsies which is what they Our have rights and feelings to, just saying
grendel
yes it always saddens me when any boat sinks, but it is more so when it is somebodys home.

Vaughan
I have seen that boat there as well. Looks like an old Windboats Flat-a-Float. In which case it is getting on a bit, since the 60s!
JennyMorgan
If it had been my home then I would have maintained it! Most of those flat-afloats have expanded polystyrene filled flotation which generally makes them near unsinkable. If Mr Weston saw that it was low in the water then I wonder why he did nothing about it?

Or even had a boat safety certificate? My eldest daughter & I went to look at a houseboat on Oulton Broad which had been totally stripped out. Because of that we had a natter with a surveyor who it turned out had had a look at the houseboat for another prospective customer. Wow weeeee, the list of things that needed doing before he could issue a certificate was endless so we backed off as have all other possible buyers. That particular houseboat looked in darn sight better condition than that sunk one.
Poppy
That's been there for a considerable time, having been up the Ant near Wayford, then lower down the same river before ending up at Sutton. Numerous BA 'Contravention notices' have been seen taped on it, no action ever appeared to be taken !
Vaughan
Expanded Poystyrene will absorb water after a while. Then it don't float no more. 1
ExSurveyor
It probably sank under the weight of the contravention notices. 4
rightsaidfred
Its been a wreck for a long while along with Pelican that was moored with it once that moved down from the end of the moorings recently, I cant comment on the circumstances but I am not surprised to say the least. jeffbroadslover
Is this the one that at one time was moored in the basin now redeveloped next to BB in Wroxham? Jeff
Gramps
Was about half a mile from Sutton Staithe when we passed it astern of a boat named Pegasus I believe. That was in last week of October

Seagypsy
We saw this houseboat in September looked like an abandoned junk yard certainly didn't look liveable

MauriceMynah
There is a suggestion elsewhere (note, just a suggestion) that liveaboard boats are being targeted, given the recent fire on a freeman and now this. Whilst I have but only a small amount of time for the "suggester", in this case it does have me wondering if it is the case, and if so, who might be the perpetrator. vanessan
I reckon it was only a matter of time before someone suggested foul play and I can’t say I am surprised as to where the suggestion came from. If there are any more ‘mishaps’, it will look a bit suspicious.

Fred Would that be classed as ‘boat waste’?!! Saw that small boat about 3 weeks ago towing the raft, it moored alongside the boat which has now sunk. Maybe they had an argument as to whose space it was..................... 2 minutes ago, MauriceMynah said: The lady doth protest too much methinks. Which lady would that be pray?
