Stella the only drink I will not consume, oh I forgot Carling in tins since they changed the recipe a couple of years ago, anything else is fair game.

I like the practice in some of the pubs in Scotland of having a small sample before you decide on pint.

In all my many years visiting pubs, I have never known of someone being hit with a dart ..Pool tables and dartboards tend to be strategically placed .  Ideally you have a bar for socialising, and a lounge for eating and being chilled

Ah, that's a point.  In the White Horse they have little wooden trays with three holes in them, and you can have three one-third pint glasses of three different brews to sample. Lovely idea for those of us unfamiliar with the range, and who, faced with an array of taps, find it difficult to decide.  I tend to sample three, and then have a pint of whichever I liked best afterwards.  Didn't notice if the same facility was on offer in the Lion?

Why not ask,many pubs will do so but don't always  advertise the fact.

Doesn't the beer run out of the holes? Does sound a marvellous idea though, I do like beer but can't drink too much of it. To be able to 'sample' 3 is the answer. Off to the White Horse soon then...........

i have ran town center pubs and there are many incidents with stray darts and pool cues

yep we offer it at the lion as well, normally have 26 ale, lager, cider choices but this weekend we have 32!

I think it's good in this country that we can cater for so many different  tastes with all the beers, ales and lagers et Al on offer. 

I just think we are lucky not be in America on a solid diet of Miller Light 

(I know it's not quite that bad but you see what I mean)

Pretty sure it is that bad !!  At a club in Southampton, (working at boat shows you get dragged along sometimes - honest!!), someone passed me a pint of lager.  They didn't do proper beer plus it was hot so I graciously accepted.  Took a swig and thought someone had given me the water from a mop bucket as a joke.  Turns out it was Coors Light and was hidious!

Don't forget if like me you do like Largers,they brew some very good ones and IPA,s.Which I prefer on hot days.

If CAMRA taught me one thing it was 'never to question another persons taste in beer'

I used to work in a Watney's pub (I drank Manns brown ale there) and many people enjoyed the ales we sold. Our local brewery is McMullens. I don't like it but others do.

So what is wrong with Stella, Greene King and Doombar? or is it just fashionable to think them inferior products.

Rick's view I can understand, he aims for small independent breweries like his own. Nothing wrong with that at all, but remember, this is all about 'choice' If I like something I like it. It's not wrong of me to like it, it's not a crime.

Hi, we were in there the other night, great food and beer, and the service is outstanding. Even the amusement arcade has reopened. The landlady said the refurbishment will be completed in the winter, more soft furnishing and kitchen expansion, so next year the menu will be larger. Well worth a visit

Hi  Colin, good to see you over here. Afraid that we do sometimes debate Authority matters over here but it's easily avoidable and we do manage, generally, to debate with decorum and courtesy. As for the tourists, they rule the roost over here, daren't slag them off, more than my life is worth!  One of 'em wears potent stilettoes that can puncture a man's lungs from eight inches away, daren't risk it!
