Timbo
OK Folks...it's time to change your passwords! Yesterday I received an email with one of my passwords as the title of the mail. The communication then went on to attempt to extort money with threats to send photo's of me watching pornography to every contact in my email contacts list. Bearing in mind the password used was from a hardware store...and people that know me are used to me having an expression on my face similar to that of a bemused yak, I reported the mail to action fraud. What did interest me was action fraud saying that stores from Amazon to Argos, B&Q to Screwfix, Marks and Spenser and many more that I use have all had data breaches very recently and many have gone unreported. When I used Google Password Checker I was a little shocked to find that 83 websites that I use have all had data breaches and the software was recommending changing passwords or cancelling memberships. I'm slowly working my way through the list of sites changing passwords etc and cancelling membership of sites I no longer use. Just a heads up, right, I'm off to look at gratuitous pictures of chisels and lathes! 2
grendel
i have always thought that the best way to farm passwords would be to set up a password security checking website, or one that randomly generated passwords for you to use. rightsaidfred
This is another scam that has been around for ages, I had it a couple of years ago. Fred
grendel
I had a similar email a few years back using that one Tim, when I looked into it it seems facebook was hacked about 8 years back and they got the emails and passwords, the password given was long out of date by the time they tried to scam me, so I just ignored it. addicted
My youngest granddaughter Phoebe got a phone call from one of her friends asking if the amount requested was enough. When Phoebe replied with a puzzled response, her friend replied "yep, thought so you've been hacked". It seems that her Facebook account had been hacked and most of her friends had received a request from her for loan to sort out an immediate problem! Her new boyrfriend's mother was somewhat bemused, texting her son to enquire if Phoebe was alright. I'm not on Facebook so was spared the worry. AndyTBoater
My 80 year old Mum who has Dementia just had a call left on her answer machine saying that her bank cards would be frozen if she didnt contact them immediately. She just called me to ask who to ring back as they (luckily) hadn`t left a contact number. Then she called me again 5 minutes later to tell me all over again. She is so frightened and scared in case they call back or cancel her cards. She has no idea this is a scam and that if she doesnt give any details she will be fine. So - a two hour journey tonight to collect all her bank cards and any bank details I haven`t already got so that if they ring again she has no details to give them. I hate people.

My elderly Mother in law suffers the same. Luckily she knows not to give out information but the scammers try different things and it is a worry. We got one of these for her: https://www.livingmadeeasy.org.uk/communication/telephones-with-photo-or-picture-buttons-1342-p/ I don't know this company, I'm just using this link as an example. When she wants to call, she just pokes one of us in the face.

He contacted Ebay and the seller was blocked but the advert kept being put on by newly registered dealers. My advice would be to keep looking for for new listings being put on. Can you elaborate OBB? A friend of mine had a note left on her car saying that the writer had hit her and asking her to phone a number. She didn’t as no damage had been done at all but it was all very strange.

Sure, so somebody hits another car in an outside car park and passers by see it happen. The drivers writes out a quick note saying "Sorry, call me" but the number left is phoney and the crowd walks on.
