vanessan
No clue as to where this was?
vanessan
Apparently this happened just ‘east of Reedham’. A family of 6 on board a hire vessel which ran aground. Thank heavens for our emergency services. That would have been very scary for the family.
Cal
That's a bit more than ran aground!!
andyg
Looks like cover girl or money penny from NYA at Brundall. The tide going out has probably made that look worse then it is. That said how long did they wait till they called for help. Surely the lifeboat responded quite quickly. Hopefully everyone and the are OK. Vaughan
Looks more to me as though they drove it full speed up the bank.
Cal
I am going to ask the obvious question as well. It is pitch black in that video. Hire boats are not allowed to navigate at night. What were they doing on the river after dark?
Meantime
It might help to look at some useful facts first. The Facebook page says that they were paged at 20:58 which is when it was still light. Since it takes them some time to scramble and get the rescue services there it would have been dark by the time they arrived. Low water was also at 23:44 in Reedham last night, so given that they had a problem some time before 20:58 when the rescue service was paged they probably got stranded 3 to 4 hrs before low water. There is a big rise and fall in that area. Anything else at this stage will be mere speculation and best left to the inane comments section on Faceache. 6

Even the most inexperienced of skippers would realise quite quickly they had a big problem. So we can only assume they were travelling after dark. As Vaughan has said it looks like it's hit the bank at some speed. Let's hope not to much damage has been caused.
Meantime
Seems most people are more interested in the video, than reading the editorial that accompanied it. To be fair you don't even need to click on the see more link to be able to read the first line as highlighted, Hemsby Broads Rescue was paged at 20:58 last night by Humber Coastguard to assist with the evacuation of a family of six who were in harm’s way due their hire vessel running aground just east of Reedham. Due to tidal conditions and the position of the vessel it was not possible to either recover the vessel or leave the family on board. Three crew members were put onboard the casualty vessel to provide care and safety advice to the family. The remaining crew manned the rescue boat and ferried the family, three at a time, back to the Reedham RV point. The family were met by a member of Gorleston Coastguard who were also on scene at the RV and monitoring the casualty vessel. The family once reunited arranged transport to Acle where they were to spend the remainder of the night. Once all six members of the family were safely evacuated the crew on board the vessel secured it ready for recovery by the hire firm at high tide and were picked up by the rescue boat and stood down. Our thanks to Gorleston Coastguard for their assistance and the crew both on the boat and at the RV point for a well-executed operation. Hemsby Broads Rescue returned to base in the early hours and prepared the equipment for the next call. See less 2

Regulo
It's obvious to me that the boat was lifted by aliens, the crew subjected to analysis, and then dumped back half in the river. What's the problem?

Hylander
At the end of the day (yes I know night comes) as long as all on board are safe that is all that matters. With the strength of the tide there the boat would be at an angle when it went down with the tide. Flash boat or not , it would have been very scary.

It's a Broom. To be clear, though, the 'charter' boats at NYA are not syndicate. The term 'charter' is just a marketing gimmick. They are hire boats. 5 2

Cheesey69
It has been reported the helm had a tick bite that was troubling him. Took his eyes off river and nosed into reeds. Low tide made it look worse

Vaughan
The bank in that area is clay mud with thick reeds on top. When a boat drives into wet reeds they bend over in front and act like a greased slipway. It is amazing how far a boat will go into reeds, before it stops! You then have the problem of launching it again. On one occasion we actually had to build a slipway out of old railway sleepers to put behind the boat and then pull it off with a couple of big tow boats.
