quo vadis
Just seen an advert on TV indicating people should wash light switches with Domestos (other bleaches are available) I can see what this is leading to be careful
MotorBoater
If this makes it to facebook and twitter I see trouble ahead
Regulo
About the same as the way to be sure there's no virus on your hands is to wash them for 10 seconds in boiling water.

grendel
a quick surface wipe with a domestos wipe should suffice, making sure not to squeeze the wipe to release excess liquid while wiping, but one thing pops up, the only people touching your lightswich should be family members, so surely if one of those has it everything is going to be a problem touching anyway.
ZimbiIV
Jill only has a 50% risk then, she does not know how to turn a light off when leaving a room! paul 1
SteveO
You need to be careful with wipes. They often contain benzalkonium chloride as the active ingredient, which is reported not to be as effective as hypochlorite bleach against coronavirus. ChrisB
I normally do kitchen and bathroom surfaces with a solution of Milton.
MauriceMynah
Now, That WOULD be some constructive work that the forum could do. Create a list of cleaning agents for hard surfaces that works against the virus. Does Domestos? Does Milton ? etc.etc.
BroadAmbition
If I'm unsure, I just ask MrsG to give it one of her glaring looks, that's enough to kill owt off Griff
stumpy
Back when I had a proper job I was a lab rat in a bugs lab testing, amongst other things, sh1t samples for things like salmonella and E-coli. The cleaning jollop of choice was 10/1 hypochlorite aka diluted bleach. I also got through 30-odd pairs of latex gloves.
Smoggy
Before you can kill off a virus you have to work out if it is actually 'alive' in the first place, I think the science is still out on wether they are actually life or not.

It is indeed a moot point. Viruses replicate by hijacking the cells of their hosts. They can't move of their own volition, they can't think. They don't do anything but replicate. They do have very specialised mechanisms that latch onto host cells so that they can do their business. When we talk about "killing" viruses, we are very often talking about distupting the latching mechanisms so that they can't operate as nature, or the bloke in the germ-warfare lab, intended. ChrisB
Well I am following the advice of the Super intellectual President of The United States. I can report that I feel much better for it, as thought a weight has been lifted. I feel safe for the first time in 5 weeks. As many members know I love a four pack of Special Brew with Bleach chasers but following the advice by The President I have moved in the last 48 hours entirely to disinfectant. I actually started with Sainsbury's own label and water but after experimentation have settled on Dettol. It really is worth the extra couple of pounds. Dettol is so much "cleaner on the palate", and the "bouquet" far superior. With the Sainsbury product I was getting Cromer's Public Toilets on the nose but with Dettol subtle hints of Pine Forest! Dettol is so superior that I have dispensed with water altogether and I am just taking it " On the Rocks"

ZimbiIV
In these times I am reminded of my grandmother.
