My day: Got up took bobo (Boris the Airedale) to the vets for the third week in a row. He has crucial ligament damage to his rear right knee and will require surgery. Left him there for an x ray to rule out anything else. Just the start I needed with two interviews for different posts scheduled this afternoon. One to France and one to New York. Joy of joys ….

Surgery will take place when we are on Silver Jubilee 1 so Fiona may stay behind which is not ideal. Internet in work pod in garden isn’t functioning so back in the house upstairs back bedroom hoping the dogs stay quiet.

It never rains but it pours kind of day! Best wishes for Boris' surgery and less stressful days ahead for you!

well that was an interesting interview, it started with, youve got so much experience we dont know what to ask you.

they got me as i was, i had done zero preparation, and if i say so myself it went well.i think the only way they might give it to someone else is that i said if i dont get it, whomever does will get my full backing, so they may give it to someone with me backing them up., but that doesnt bother me one bit either

You are a chilled guy Peter. Interviews get me completely wound up, not that I’ve had one for about 4 years. I’ve just decided that now I’m winding down to retirement it’s not worth the stress.

I’m surprised to find myself in a 12 month secondment at present that I got without an interview. HR tried to insist on a proper recruitment process, but somehow my current line manager got around that. She’s a force to be reckoned with, but very supportive when you are working for her. I must admit that I was in two minds about accepting it, having worked in one Faculty since 1996, and so wary of change. The change has done me good though. It’s good to feel valued in contributing knowledge and experience but to be learning a wealth of new things at the same time.

Ok follow up to yesterday:

First interview has come back with another one tomorrow afternoon via teams of course.

Second interview has come back with a CDA for me to sign so we can have a more detailed chat in another interview, it’s also moved from interim to permanent. Or leading to permanent via a shorter process.

So we are two for two so far which is good. I decided years ago just to be myself and let my experience and career speak for itself. Seems to be working.

Bobo is not allowed out except on a lead even in the garden.

Thats my approach too Martin, after all as its internal, they know that i know my stuff, and that hiring me 9 years ago was the best thing they ever did

I decided to really be myself 17, well 18 years ago to be precise. I thought I have done my bit and "Jacked it in"

Yesterday I went to Gibraltar Point for no better reason than I had not been there before.

It was a sunny quite clear day and I could see the multi-coloured cliffs of Hunstanton clearly through my bins.

It was interesting but not as nice as the North Norfolk wilderness areas. Imho!

Not fancying the 140 miles return, I booked into an outanding hotel.....Outstanding that is for it's mediocrity in all facets of hospitality.

But before going home I drove up the Roman Bank and visited The North Sea Observatory (wish I had had breakfast there and not hotel)

So having never been to the Lincolnshire coast, been there, done it. I will not hurry back preferring Norfolk, Suffolk and North Essex.

The strange "Rocket like" structure you stand in and it is designed to amplify the sound of the wind and sea.

Just north of the Observatory Chris is Anderby Creek, we spent a few days there about 3 or 4 years ago and after visiting spots all over Lincs decided we had accidentally chosen the spot we liked best. The walk down the beach to the observatory was just right for building an appetite for a snack there although fine dining it was not lol

We also decided that Norfolk and Suffolk were much more to our liking 🙂

My day Sunday, a down river race to Thurne and back, Blue Moon performed better than before, but there are improvements to be made. Discovered I need a most important accessory..... A beer can holder.. Hot work yesterday, so I opened a can of Coke, mainsheet one hand, tiller the other... Nowhere to put down the can...

Saw Broad Ambition twice, a ranger giving someone grief about speeding in the 6 MPH area.

Next weekend, Guardship duties on Hickling Broad for the 3 Rivers Race..

Today we visited  the boat, mainly  to put odds and  sods on the boat.Little bit of cleaning. First problem how to turn on the water.Phoned Richardsons, switch on the water pump. What seemed odd even when we stopped  filling the sink. The pump kept working. Not had that on SK.For the time being just do bits at the moorings.Few weeks time when Marina's hand is okay, we're  take the boat out

it probably has an accumulator so it basically recharges the water system to keep pressure up.. it helps make the pump last longer.

When Tony had his m.o.t at the surgery last December it was noted that his PSA reading was up a little and the doc. had been monitoring it  since. Because his recent blood test showed it was still up (but not any higher) she decided to refer him to a specialist. She said she didn't consider at all urgent so it would not be  for a few weeks. This was about 2  weeks ago.  So, we came home from the boat last week to find a letter from the  hospital with an appointment arranged for last  Thursday which was the same day as my  radio therapy consultation, before I start treatment on the 25th. If it had been the same hospital, it would have been fine but of course it wasn't. We managed to reschedule it for today and after a somewhat worrying week he was told by the specialist  that there  is nothing  to worry about at all. It's all pretty normal in a man of his age. Hugely relieved, now just got to get mine out of the way. Just 5 days fortunately, The sting in the tail? The last and longest treatment session falls on my birthday!

Good news about Tony 👍 and I guess finishing treatment on your birthday is slightly better than starting it on your birthday!

When you're ready you should have an official birthday, like the Queen 🥂

Thanks Ray. Yes it is great news. I suppose I should be gratefuj and acknowledge that without all this treatment I've had to have during the past few months I may not have any more birthdays at all! Sobering thought. I'm more than ready for an official birthday. I've often thought of having no more birthdays but replacing them with benefit days. What do you think  of that  idea?

Sounds like a very good idea! My own birthday has always been somewhat eclipsed by Christmas anyway so an official date would be a good start 👍

On the PSA tests it seems that different health authorities apply different criteria. I requested one at my last review (family history) but was told they won't use them diagnostically only to monitor known conditions. It's a bit of a concern because catching these things early is always best!

Tony was told by our surgery some years ago that they no longer did PSA tests as a matter of course only if you requested specificlly so he always asks for it to be included in his annual check up. Given how many men are diagnosed with Prostate cancer it seems a flawed system to me. Likewise the fact that the health service stops inviting women to have a mammogram after their 70th birthday and yet on the walls of the mobile  and hospital mammogram units are numerous posters pointing out that oneis just as likely to develop breast cancer after 70 as before! Ludicrous!

On a lighter note mother nature just treated us to one of the best rainbows I've ever seen and bathed the church in a beautiful late evening shaft of light through the clouds. Both photos taken on my phone without leaving the house!
