For Those That Moor In Brundall

Wots wrong with train spotters?:default_rofl:

My early ‘career’ was spent working for British Rail (well, Sealink first, then BR). I had a stint working in the ‘European Rail’ ticket office in Victoria Station, which I really enjoyed. On a daily basis I was serving all sorts of nationalities, and trying my best to get around language barriers. It improved my knowledge of 1980s European geography immensely …but of course the Eastern European map has changed so much since then.  Several of my colleagues (mostly single men, unsurprisingly) were dedicated international train spotters, spending their annual leave trotting around the globe seeking out special trains. India in particular seemed to be magnet.

This noise?

That's the one, thank you for that bit of train porn! :default_trophy:

I heard somewhere, probably on this forum, that they had to have a type 37 at each end because the old rolling stock couldn't be pushed and there is no facility for a single loco to swap ends at Yarmouth?

Anyway, electric is the way to go.

An updated menu woild be nice plus get rid of all that spider sanctury stuff on the ceiling that would be a huge improvement.

Your wish has been granted, noticed it all outside on pallets this week along with crates of glasses but couldnt tell if the glasses were going in or coming out. What with all the outside signs being removed as well something is going on.

That is correct, both owners have been there since 1980.

I presume it was them who changed the name back to The Yare when they bought it.

For a short period in the 1970s it was the Queen Elizabeth (possibly renamed for the Silver Jubilee?).

Pic is an advert from 1978 "What to do on the Norfolk Broads". The 1981 issue has the pub as The Yare.

You could dine until midnight in those days.

Very interesting thanks. Coincidentaly, on my version of the article there is one of those annoying click baits: "Google Pictures to Raise Eyebrows". When I first looked at moorings around Brundall I used google streetview to have a look around. Coming over the level crossing to the pub, there was suddenly a couple in the pub's conservatory, mooning at the google camera. That convinced me Brundall was the place for me! :default_norty:

A couple of moorings for the pub would be nice.

you would never get on,   they would be booked solid for weeks ahead

it would be a great asset if it was a first come first served basis

I have moored there before, it was a bank holiday weekend and we snuck under brooms travelling crane and climbed over the wooden fence before the higher wire one went in, naughty but it was a mission to visit by boat.

Dinghy'd it once as well and tied on to the end of a private mooring and dragged it out of the way on the painter.

It will always be the Yare to me.

I think it depends on how much of The Yare remains.  Obviously, the building itself won’t change much, but the pub, as it was, was defined by the interior decor (imho).  It remains to be seen how it will be decorated, but it will surely be very different to how it was, so maybe a change of name will encourage folk back who may have been put off by its former ‘character.’

The place is being striped inside and the outside has had a coat of paint

The pubs surrounded by protective fencing at the moment, but it certainly looks as though they are gutting the place from the amount of stuff going in the skips

We also saw Independence on the hard standing outside Broom main office so she is either awaiting some work or transportation

As for the moorings at Broom, we couldn't help but notice the number of empty spaces as there must have been between 15 and 20 mooring spaces in and around Brooms which appeared to be more than we had ever seen before and from the Yare you could clearly see the hard standing area and the Yare PH

I do think it would benefit them if they could create some visitor moorings, open up to hire craft visiting and create some decking and outdoor seating leading to the moorings

If they did this, they could transform the area into something people would want to visit and raise the profile of Broom to the local and boating community
