AdnamsGirl
This is a really enjoyable watch - an excellent documentary about the River Yare in Winter from 1975, uploaded to YouTube by the Norfolk Windmills Trust recently. https://youtu.be/pd0xCF6_rKY 4 7

JennyMorgan
Good to be reminded of Cadilly, only a glimpse but nevertheless probably the best looking motor cruiser ever on the Broads. http://norfolk.broads.org.uk/wiki2018/index.php?title=Boat_Photograph&photo=n64_8686b&style=Bm45A&returnpath=Boat_Details&classname=Broom_45
JanetAnne
And sadly lost only last year. Cadilly was one of four Broom 45's the most notable being 'The Albert' based on Wroxham Broad. Another called Sujarota is still at Brundall and old age means I can't remember the name of the fourth Three of the four were twin engined whereas Cadilly had just the one. Ironically Cadilly was the only one to go to sea! In the film she is at Brooms where she returned to every winter for servicing, winterising etc. Her dinghy is missing from the davits, 1975 was the year it was stolen! marshman
Dear oh dear Carol- that brought back a few memories!!! Liked the bit about coypus - me and some mates used to catch and then skin 'em and use the fur to put inside the parkas the Mods had. Cor blimey, his Dads garage didn't half hum a bit!!!!! YnysMon
That was a gem. Thanks for sharing. I loved the accent of the old chap who was looking after pumps on the lower end of the river. A notable difference between his accent and younger men in the area.

Vaughan
I remember when the Sea Scouts had MTB 102 moored in Brundall and she was moored in a cut on the riverbank, from where what is now called Ho-bro's dyke was dug out, to form the Brundall Bay Marina. Interesting film of the building sheds at Harvey Eastwood, which was on the main river opposite Coldham Hall. Also some good shots of the quay in front of Jimmy Cole senior's riverside stores at Tidecraft - now part of the Brooms premises. In those days they were a very important service for hire boats on the Yare, very much like Lathams are now. It's funny, but I would put that film as nearer 1970 than 1975. eddybear
Brilliant documentary I remember having to keep out of the way of the coasters on the Southern Broads, it used to be the same as the ones going up river to Colchester think they stopped back in the early 80s. floydraser
Loved it. Spotted the boat similar to mine being repaired; he was giving it quite a whack wasn't he? Loved the Coypu hunter: "...I ain' gonna 'urt yer". Bang! The old Marshman's accent reminded me of a forklift driver at Asda Norwich, Tony. I think those coasters would have frightened the life out of me. That said, wouldn't I just love one as a project!
Broads01
Very enjoyable, what a brilliant snapshot of the time. Was the hire cruiser from Jack Powles?
Springsong
Thanks for that Carol a great film. I have told Malcolm who I think owned Cadilly at that time, I rather think that actually him bending over with the the mast.
