BroadAmbition
I would be terrified handling a boat that size - 27' 5" was fine There are plenty of your close friends on here and some not on here that are more than capable, besides you would need a crew maybe a day out with your good self would be nice! 'A day out' - Stuff that, it's just gotta involve at least one overnight, preferably two to make it worthwhile, - I'm 162 miles or 3 n half hours away. Bring some friends - that's mandatory btw Griff

grendel
I was lucky last night to be able to pop out and assist a colleague at the local scout group, we were there as adstronomers to help them get their astronomy badges, as part of this we watched the ISS pass overhead, then we showed them the moon through our telescopes. while we were there I was testing my latest boot fair find, an 1100mm mirror lens, on the moon with some pretty good results
Regulo
You bought a lens on the moon? Where did you go for this boot fair? . Great image, Gren. I often go and watch the ISS going over, never fails to amaze me.

grendel
they have good boot fairs at Canterbury, on hard standing so not weather dependent (unless its tipping down) it only stops during the pre christmas shopping period when the car park is used sundays. BroadAmbition
Next 'Target' will be in 12 x days time, 100 x days and a cool £1k saved. Today is that day. My one hundredth day off the weed so £1k or one THOUSAND £'S not spent on them since 30th Aug. It is also MrsG's 58th consecutive day away from the family / family home, 156 days away in total and counting. Just another 26 days and she will break the 6 x month mark. I'm proper missing her Griff 3
SwanR
Griff I couldn't bring myself to choose any single on of the buttons to click for your post. Well done on the non-smoking, that's a great achievement. My hubby gave up years ago so I hadn't realised just how expensive it had got, quite apart from the effect on one's health. But sad times being away from Mrs G for so long. Hope you have some time together over Christmas.
BroadAmbition
Thanks. The only way we will be able to spend Christmas together is if her Mum has finally kicked the bucket. If not, MrsG stays up in Gourock, I stay down here. Her Mum is in such a poor way right now and deteriorating daily that allowing visitors other than immediate family is not an option. ---------------------------------------------- My immediate biggest concern is our crew member Macie Dog. I normally take her to the pub on a Sunday evening but not tonight, she is just not well enough. Macie has a doggy version of Breast cancer, inoperable. She also now has very bad arthritis in both front legs. Macie is 11 going on 12. I cannot and will not see her suffer any longer. I will not be going anywhere this evening as I want to be with her for her last night at home. The two of us home alone. Tomorrow I will take her to the vets for the last time, hold her head, stroke her gently and watch that spark go out of her eyes. This will be the third time I have had to do this for our Retrievers. I'm dreading it but it has got to be done. I owe her it. Macie, like our two previous retrievers has been the full on loyal companion, especially as she is the first full proper gundog we have owned as well as being a member of our family. She has been boat savvy too each and every year numerous times onboard, has attended 11 x Lads weeks and somehow survived them along with the rest of us Tomorrow - man down I'm so going to miss her. CambridgeCabby
So sorry to hear this Griff , although I am heartened that you prefer to let her go to sleep peacefully instead on letting her suffer further . As dog lovers and owners ourselves we know the pain of such decisions and our thoughts will be with you and your family .

Lulu
Griff, I am so sorry. Our male greyhound King collapsed in July. Selsie called me at work and said i needed to come home immediately. We got him to the vet within an hour and had to make the decision then and there to let him go. It was totally devastating and a real shock. He was my baby boy, we had such a bond and I’m still not over it. My thoughts are with you and will be tomorrow. King will look after her in their dog beds in the clouds

vanessan
Only dog owners/lovers can understand the bond between a human and a four-legged friend. I know only too well what you are feeling right now and what tomorrow is going to be like. My thoughts are with you.
Wussername
The Power of the Dog THERE is sorrow enough in the natural way From men and women to fill our day; And when we are certain of sorrow in store, Why do we always arrange for more? Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware Of giving your heart to a dog to tear. Buy a pup and your money will buy Love unflinching that cannot lie Perfect passion and worship fed By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head. Nevertheless it is hardly fair To risk your heart for a dog to tear. When the fourteen years which Nature permits Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits, And the vet's unspoken prescription runs To lethal chambers or loaded guns, Then you will find - it's your own affair, - But ... you've given your heart to a dog to tear. When the body that lived at your single will, With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!), When the spirit that answered your every mood Is gone - wherever it goes - for good, You will discover how much you care, And will give your heart to a dog to tear! We've sorrow enough in the natural way, When it comes to burying Christian clay. Our loves are not given, but only lent, At compound interest of cent per cent, Though it is not always the case, I believe, That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve; For, when debts are payable, right or wrong, A short-time loan is as bad as a long - So why in - Heaven (before we are there) Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear? LizG
Oh Griff I am so so sad for you. Bless poor sweet Macie. I dreamt last night one of our cats died. It was horrid and I remember the day I took one of beautiful cats to the vets not realising then it was the last time. It was heart breaking. Raise a glass tomorrow for our beloved best friends. Temp
Griff, check to see whether the vet will come to you. Ours did and it makes an unbearable situation more private, less stressful for the dog and slightly less awful for you. CC
JennyMorgan
Re Macie I can only sympathise with Griff. The loss of any dog is sad, the loss of a good working dog is more so, the break up of a team as well as the loss of an understanding friend.
grendel
My condolences too Griff, I will miss the mobile doorstop on lads weeks. its one of the hardest things to do ( I have had to do that trip with 3 of our cats and also had a fourth breathe her last in my arms whilst waiting for the vets to open), and it is a heartbreaking thing to do, but you are right too in that it is the humane thing to do so they dont suffer. our pets are family so its not easy to let them go, but we also have to do the right thing to prevent suffering. take care of yourself too.just remember the meeting at the rainbow bridge at a future date, I have a whole herd of cats that will be awaiting me there come that time.
